TWO Sunday Matinees on Sunday 15th and Sunday 22nd March at 2.00pm, followed by a discussion group.
Kathleen Gallagher is an award winning New Zealand-based, contemporary videographer and playwright.
Company Theatre is presenting the Auckland premiere of two of her ‘Peace Plays’, Hautu and Charlie Bloom, which offer perspectives on the lives of people affected by war or weaponry.
The Sunday matinees will be an opportunity to remain for a while and discuss issues around conflict and peace with the cast and crew.
The plays are called HAUTU and CHARLIE BLOOM.
What are they about?
In HAUTU a family is torn apart when when two young men refuse to fight and are sent to a detention centre as conscientious objectors during the Second World War.

Kath Hair, Sam Geraghty and Elizabeth Gill in HAUTU.
In CHARLIE BLOOM, an Auckland couple are ravaged by undiagnosed sickness following radiation fallout from the nuclear testing on Mururoa in 1966.
The stories are told through music, movement and theatre.

Jo Olsen and Carol Smith in CHARLIE BLOOM
Company Theatre has chosen to produce these plays at a time where many different remembrances are being made of the 100 years since Gallipoli in World War 1, and the seventy years since the end of World War 2.
Steven Arnold, the director, whose grandfather was a conscientious objector and who is a member of The New Zealand Peace Council says:
"There will always be differences between people…differences add to human diversity, they don’t diminish it….difference doesn't need to be better or worse…I wonder what world we could create if this was a dialogue based on acceptance and understanding”.
Wednesday – Saturday 8pm and matinees at 2pm on Sundays. To book phone 445 9900 or email info@rosecentre.co.nz.
