What a delightfully wicked rogue.  Valmont is a gift of a role to play:

The most colourful peacock in Paris.   A master strategist disguised as a libertine, whose talent may ultimately be undone by his own hubris and conceit.

A part, in many ways, Michael's life thus far has been leading to.

In Valmont's own words "It's the first step towards the most ambitious plan I've ever undertaken."

This is Rebecca’s second play with Company Theatre, having played Clown 1 in last year’s The 39 Steps, for which she was delighted to win the NAPTA for Outstanding Performer in a Supporting Role. There may not be a more opposite play to that frenetic, multi-rolled comedy than Les Liaisons Dangereuses, but Rebecca is up for the challenge of what might be her most mature role yet.

Rebecca grew up locally, but travelled to Wellington to study Classics and Theatre at Victoria University. She draws some inspiration for Madame de Tourvel from two of the roles she played while there – Cassandra in Aeschylus’ Agamemnon (an innocent caught in the crossfire of an arrogant man and a conniving woman) and the titular role in John Gay’s Polly: An Opera (a good girl gone bad). Now living on the Shore again, Rebecca works as a TV captioner and spends her time reading, writing and crocheting.

Josie is making her Company Theatre debut, following her backstage involvement with the production Out of Order last year. After taking some time away from acting, she is thrilled to be back on stage in the role of Cécile de Volanges. Les Liaisons Dangereuses has been a fantastic opportunity for her to grow as a performer, and she's had so much fun bringing this character to life on stage. Previously, Josie studied Speech and Drama with Trinity College, achieving diploma level and developing a strong foundation in performance and voice. Her previous stage credits include Mary Warren in the Centrestage production of The Crucible and Letitia Blacklock in A Murder Is Announced. She has also appeared in productions of Bookworms, Testing Times, Times of Our Lives, and Olivia's Angels.

Rebecca is excited to be back in another Company Theatre production.

Most recently, she has been on stage in The Pink Hammer and Call Girls at The Pumphouse Theatre.

Previous roles with Company Theatre productions have included The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Death of a Salesman, and Rumours.

She has loved being a part of this production, working with a team of very talented cast and crew to bring this classic story to life.

Playing the role of Mme Volanges has been thoroughly enjoyable and a reminder that while fashions and societal norms may have changed throughout the years, themes such as motherhood, love, loyalty and betrayal remain timeless.

Favourite roles include Dolly in Hello Dolly!, Helene Hanff in 84 Charing Cross Road, and Nurse Ratchett in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. After a very(!) lengthy acting hiatus post-high school, Emily dipped her toes back into the water last year, performing as Grace in Dolphin Theatre's London Suite.

A fan of the original Les Liaisons Dangereuses novel, and every subsequent variation upon it (a special shout out to the 90's pop culture classic Cruel Intentions as a core teenage memory), she was determined to be a part of Company Theatre's rendition, and is delighted to be playing Emilie, whom she imagines is probably one of the play's few characters with the freedom to be completely themselves without any pretense, and may well secretly have a more enjoyable life than her scheming aristocratic counterparts!

She'd like to thank both her partner and her mum for their support and dog-sitting services, enabling her to live out her on-stage dreams.

Shiv is a professionally trained actor of over 10 years, performing around New Zealand and overseas on stage and screen. With a strong commitment to storytelling and performance, he has continued to develop his craft, embracing roles that challenge and inspire both himself and his audiences. His latest credit on stage was playing Mr Darcy in Foolish Wit's sold-out season of Pride & Prejudice at the Pumphouse Theatre. Shiv admits that in recent times, he has stuck to the genres which he is comfortable with so doing something like that was a growing point in his career, much like playing Azolan in this production. He is looking forward to being an absolute pest on stage. Outside of acting, Shiv is passionate about sports, having played cricket and football at a high level. Just put a bat, ball or club in his hand and he is a very happy boy.
