Company Theatre, began in 1980 with a group of nine performers under the name of "Company Players."
Those initial nine are reflected in our logo.
John Dylan was the first President and initiated a programme of experimental or “avant garde” productions, performed around the Shore, but mainly in St Michael's Hall, King Edward Ave, Bayswater, Auckland.
In 1982, a new committee changed direction to more box office, more popular, shows including Music Halls. The theatre grew very quickly in the period 1982 – 1990, and began looking for a new, larger performance space and Home.
With input from Geoff Clews, Peter Segrove, Neil Burgham and Paddy Stafford-Bush, a community centre was proposed for the Belmont area, and The Rose Centre, opened in 1992 with Company Theatre as the resident Theatre Group.
Within The Rose Centre, Company Theatre has its own Home and Rehearsal Room. They have produced 3 or 4 shows a year, consistently, since 1992.
The Rose Centre is a vibrant community centre with a fully equipped, comfortable, air-conditioned theatre that seats 110.
Below will be a collection of archived memorabilia put together by Scott Thomas. You will soon be able to click on the title to learn more about the play. This is under construction. For now, enjoy a list of all our shows.
